t h e l a t e s t

i told you in my bedroom post that i was in the process of making us a headboard for our bed.  i'm glad to say i'm in the final stages of said headboard.  i'm just trying to decide on final touches.  i found inspiration on pinterest of course.  its been a bit of a task, because instead of tracking down weathered wood i made my own.  i beat the heck out of it, sanded it, stained it with tea, paint, steel wool & apple cider vinegar.  but i'm actually really happy with the results!  i cannot wait to finish it and get it above the bed.  hoping to have final pictures to share by monday!  and next on the bedroom list of things to do...pillows.  find them.  make them. buy them.  whatever just get some that i cannot live with out!
here is a little peek at the wood.

ca-ching

the cups of cake have been delivered.
the cupcake delivery went pretty smoothly this morning.  2 dozen funfetti cupcakes, & 2 dozen red velvet cupcakes.  i was lacking cupcake inserts for the boxes, that made delivery a little difficult.   they shifted in the boxes a little but they still looked completely fine when i got to the house.  i spent quite a bit of time on the red velvet's but the hard work paid off.  these were for a bridal shower and the wedding is going to be vintage with a lot of lace and twine, hence the red velvet decorations!  hopefully i can make this more of a regular thing.

for the love of sprinkles

it is official!  i got my first real baking order.  to be completely honest, my goal of 1O commissioned orders for the year 2O12 isn't looking too hot if this is my first....but i'm still so so excited!  i love baking and i'm hoping to make enough of an impression to maybe get some more orders down the road.  this order is for a bridal shower, her theme is vintage.   i'm making 2 dozen red velvet and 2 dozen funfetti per the brides request.  to add my own personal touch & perhaps a little vintage style to the treats i'm wrapping lace and twine around each cupcake liner!  they should be adorable.  but tonight i tested out a new funfetti recipe.  if the batter is any indication of what the baked cupcake will taste like, i better attend a couple of classes at the gym tomorrow.  anyway, back to the cupcakes, i love using sprinkles and this was the first time i actually got to cut open a vanilla bean and use actual vanilla beans.  those things are cool and smell divine.  but really, who can turn down something covered with sprinkles?

our bedroom

contrary to the title of this post, i promise the content is not disturbing or 'tmi'.  i figured i'd shoot myself later if i didn't take pictures of our very own first apartment together.  so here is our bedroom, nothing fantastic.  i couldn't paint or wall paper, and really i didn't spend too much time decorating considering we were away from our house all the time.  here is the only bedroom in our first one bedroom basement apartment in alpine.   we bought the dresser from ksl, it's cute and served its purpose but i hope to get some cute knobs for it soon and maybe paint some chevron on it, i've seen a lot of cute ideas on pinterest.  i'm also in the process of creating a headboard.  i'm always on the lookout for cute decorative pillows to throw on the bed.  i'm super picky though so it will probably take a while to find the right ones.  {on a side note the rocking chair & beautiful curtains, not ours. ha they came with the apt, didn't want you to think i was turning all grandma on ya.}  also please note that this closet was the only closet in our whole house, it is seriously freaking AMAZING that all our stuff fit in our house.  but seeing that we've now condensed from a basement to one bedroom in the basement, i'm missing all of our "extra" space.

rodeos & cupcakes

this past weekend we spent mostly with family.  we started making cupcakes for konnor’s 2nd birthday friday night.  he loves a show called ‘timmy time’ that has a sheep named shaun.  so I made him some shaun the sheep cuppies.  they turned out pretty cute.  i shaped tootsie rolls into faces, made eyes with white chocolate chips and a dab of black frosting.  frosted the bad boys and mallowed them up for the wool.   i initially had the ambition to put some black licorice or something for legs but I ran out of time and figured they were cute enough, and he is 2 so…..i think he’ll forgive me for the legless sheeps.  it worked out perfect for the party, azure had a red barn she had made as her valentine drop box for school that we used to pose the sheep in and around at the party.  once again, konnor is 2, he didn’t care where the sheep was he just wanted it in his tummy!!

let’s back track though, friday night forb and i had a much needed date night.  we live with my parents now and it has actually been pretty great.  but the little sisters don’t really give us any alone time.  so any chance we get we sneak away.  we ate at wingers…too much I might add.  we wanted to go to the driving range but it was so blasted hot we went to target and walked around for a bit.  bought stuff for the cupcakes and headed home where i did a test run of shaun’s head to make sure tootsie rolls would work.  then we went to the driving range, i must say i hit a lot better.  probably by the end of the season i’ll have mastered how to hit the driver, just in time to maybe play 9 holes.  saturday morning we both worked and that night we went up to park city with my family.  we enjoyed some chinese food at my favorite chinese restaurant szechwan.  next time you go to pc try it, I promise you won’t be disappointed.  {but definitely go before 3, it’s a lot cheaper to buy lunch.} we drove a little further up to oakley where we watched the oakley rodeo.  it was a really great rodeo, we thoroughly enjoyed it.  sunday evening was konnor’s party, and the sheep were a hit.  one day i’ll get to open that bakery…one of these days.

4th of july

our 4th of july was quite low key, we spent majority of the day just hanging out.  which was quite alright with me and probably best for forb, don't say i said anything but he sprained his knee trying to do a dunk on the basketball hoop!!!  i started the day with a run, then forb & i got patriotic donuts for everyone, so yummy.  we helped dad make some bacon cheeseburgers and a huge delicious lunch for everyone while continually watching the fire in alpine burn.  that night we went to thanksgiving point where they did a big firework show.  it was a fab day.  we are so grateful to live in this wonderful country were we are so blessed with freedom.  may it continue that way forever.  god bless america.

animal jam

at the end of may some friends ran off with forb & i to yellowstone.  we stayed in our own little cabin.  with a loft where sean & britt, forrest & i had sleepovers every night.  we gave nate and heather their own room, seeing it was their first vaca without the babe.  it also came equipped with our own little hot tub, which we happened to use every night.  we each took a turn making dinner and just hung out.  a much needed fun trip.  and we only managed one major incident, heather chipped a tooth while eating lunch in the park one day.  but she was a trooper and stuck it out, and now a part of her remains in the park.  funny how we can't take any of the park but it can keep what it wants from us.

during the days we'd drive off to west yellowstone and explore the beautiful park.  all via car, it snowed all the days we were actually able to go to the park.  but being from utah that didn't stop us, just made us a little lot wet and cold.  we were always on the hunt for a bear.  didn't see one that we could actually confirm was a bear, but i think we may have saw one or two up high on the hill.  we watched old faithful steam like crazy, it was too cold to actually see any water shoot.  we saw lots of buffalo, elk, and hot springs.  mostly we enjoyed being with friends and creating memories.

finally forever

i've been absent as of late.  busy working on the road, baking treats and fattening myself up.  which to be honest isn't so awesome.  the last few weeks i've been working out and the number on the scale isn't getting any smaller.  so to appease my sorrow i go and bake some more treats.  it is a vicous, unforgiving cycle.  what's that saying, "a moment on the lips, forever on the hips"  geez i hope that is not true, but that's an entirely different post....i love reading blogs.  and i love looking back on how crazy in love i was with forrest and all the little things while we were dating.  i want to document those things in our life, in some small way.  that being said i'll probably start out with something kind of big.  because it is so special to me.

forrest and i got married last june.  it was a fun, crazy day.  the set up, the barn, the food, the outfits all of it was so perfect.  but deep down i knew that something was missing.  we promised ourselves to each other until death.  how romantic right?  i found myself through the first year of our marriage always wanting to say we'll be together forever, and though that was our goal it felt wrong to say it when it was not reality.  so we immediately started preparing to enter the temple to be sealed together with any future babies that we will be blessed with forever.  everyday i had this fear that something would happen to one of us and we would miss our chance to get sealed because we didn't do it right the first time.  i'd actually always tell forrest you cannot die until after we go through the temple.  mostly as a joke to hide how serious i was about it.  it was a long road.  the few months leading up to it were difficult, actually to be frank it was kind of hell.  my dad always warned me when we got close to going to the temple every trick in the book would be thrown at us.  and wow, things i had not even experienced before.  rough.  forrest and i have never fought but man did we learn how to give the silent treatment.  it felt like we couldn't be around our families because they too were falling apart.  and that is not even half of it.  money, i cannot even start explaning that one.  anyway we made it through those months and to the oquirrh mountain temple {a little info for you, as much as things are hard when you are doing what's right they are that much better because HF knows what he is doing}.  on june 23, 2O12.  1 year from the day exactly.  i've never felt so blessed, and in love with forrest, and acknowledged and knowing i was doing what i was supposed to.  it all felt so right, even though everything went so wrong.  the wind was a complete joke, as i mentioned before...i'm huge, the photographer did not show up until everyone was already gone, it was so hot, and everyone that had brought a camera had dead batteries, go figure.  thanks to a few people we used some iPhone's and got some great pictures.  but really pictures aren't what was important.  i was just glad to be with friends and family and most importantly forrest.  words cannot even explain how much i love that man.  he is so right for me when everything else is wrong.  we had a big dinner planned and honestly all i wanted to do was sit with him in the car for the rest of the day.  i know some of my friends don't see in him what i do, because yes he would rather wear a pair of jordans and a tall tee and watch basketball every night, but no matter what we do he makes me laugh and love being his wife.  so i'm so proud to say that i'm mrs.forrest gillette, not only until we die, but for always.
